SUNDARIJAL, Aug 17: The blasting for the construction of a tunnel from Sundarijal side of Melamchi Drinking Water Project resumed Tuesday.

Locals had disrupted the construction on Sunday saying that their houses suffered cracks due to the blasting in Mahankal of Sundarijal VDC-7.[break]

The construction resumed after local residents, Melamchi Drinking Water Project and the contractor company China 15 Railway agreed to continue the construction after a three-party meeting on Monday, according to geologist Shashi Dhungel.

According to the agreement, families of Surya Lama and Chhiring Lama will be temporarily shifted to a safer place. The project will bear all the costs of shifting and repair the damaged houses after the completion of the tunnel construction, said a local Min Bahadur Ghimire.

Locals said the blasting has affected pregnant women, infants and gestated cattle.

The construction of the tunnel has been disrupted three times since its inauguration.
