KAILALI, April 20: The provincial government of Sudurpaschim Province has started construction of embankments along seven streams in Kailali district.
The authorities concerned have started building embankments along the Kataini Gauriganga, Shivaganga, Ghuraha, Kandra, Kanda and Thuligad streams.
The Sudurpaschim Government has allocated a budget for controlling river erosion, according to the Hydro Resource and Irrigation Development Division Office.
Embankments lessen riverbank erosion, flooding in Jhapa
The Kataini stream will have 280-meter-long embankment, while Gauriganga will have 230-meter-long embankment, Shivaganga will have 165-meter-long levee. Similarly, Ghuraha stream will have a 150-meter-long embankment. A provincial government has signed contracts worth Rs 30 million for the construction of a total of 825 meters of embankment.
Division Chief Amar Bahadur Pal informed that even the Kanda stream of Bardagoriga rural municipality will have an embankment.
Construction of embankments for Kathaiya, Magrahawa and Ambari rivulets is also underway. Similarly, the provincial government has signed a contract of Rs 40 million for the construction of 756-meter-long embankment along the Thuligad rivulet in Mohanyal rural municipality-4.
