KATHMANDU, July 19: The civil society in Bhimsen Thapa rural municipality in Gorkha district has lodged a complaint at the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Thursday seeking a thorough probe into alleged corruption in the rural municipality.
In the complaint letter addressed to the CIAA chief commissioner, the civil society has charged the rural municipality administration with misuse of authority.
It has accused the rural municipality administration of approving the quotations for development works submitted by contractor Chitra Prasad Bhatta by turning down quotations submitted by other contractors on the basis of political connection.

It has also accused the chairperson of Bhimsen Thapa rural municipality Ishwor Pandey and the vice-chairperson Binu Wagle of directing the contractor Bhatta to play a key role in influencing development works carried out in the rural municipality.
The rural municipality has been carrying out development activities without following the Public Procurement Act and other rules and regulations, the complaint letter states.
Its members have demanded that a probe into the alleged corruption in Bhimsen Thapa rural municipality be conducted thoroughly and the perpetrators be brought to justice.
“If the chairperson, the vice-person, concerned administrative staffs and the contractor Bhatta are convicted of corruption, we demand that they be given the harshest possible punishment in accordance with the Prevention of Corruption Act,” reads the complaint letter registered at the CIAA.
