CIB nabs two for operating illegal VOIP

KATHMANDU, June 3: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police on Tuesday arrested two men for illegally running Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) services in Dhapasi, Kathmandu.

The CIB raided a rented flat in the second floor of a house owned by Lila Bahadur Chhetri in Dhapasi Height, and arrested the two with the equipment. The arrested were Bishnu Ranabhat, 29, originally from Jamune-4 of Tanahun District, and Nasheeb Tamang, 30, of Gunja Nagar-7 of Chitwan District.

The investigation body seized 16 ports GOIP Device-1set, 8 ports GOIP Device-3 sets, 13 NTC SIM Cards, 35 Ncell SIM Cards, TP Link Routers, laptops and other devices being used for the illegal operation. The police also seized a car and Rs 350,000 from their possession.The CIB has launched crack downs against over 79 raids against illegal VOIP operations and arrested 135 people including 31 foreign nationals. About Rs 10.8 billion has been claimed from the arrested till date, a press statement reads. CIB has also seized about 20,995 SIM cards from different operations along with several modern equipments.
