CIAA receives 22,000 complaints in the past 10 months

KATHMANDU, June 18: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has revealed that nearly 22,500 complaints were received in a period of 10 months.

Secretary at the CIAA, Rameshwar Dangal, presented the data in the meeting of the National Affairs and Coordination Committee under the National Assembly held on Sunday.During the committee meeting, Dangal informed that 22,355 complaints had been received till mid-May of the fiscal year 2023/24.

Only about 12,592 complaints have been resolved. According to the anti-graft body, it was done while appealing in 230 cases.

The percentage of offenses registered is also the lowest in FY 2022/23. A total of 30.7 percent of offenses have been registered in this fiscal year.

Secretary Dangal said that the highest number of offenses, which is 88.24 percent, was registered in 2019/20.

In terms of percentage, the highest number of complaints was 70.56 percent in 2021/22. Similarly, the lowest 56.33 percent of complaints that were dismissed was in FY 2023/24.

According to CIAA officials, a total of 19,488 complaints were registered in FY 2018/19, 24,085 in FY 2019/20, 25,152 in FY 2020/21, 22,625 in FY 2021/22 and 24,331 in FY 2022/23.
