BIRGANJ, April 15: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has begun a probe into arbitrary appointment of staffers at the Narayani Sub Regional Hospital, Birgunj.

The anti-graft body has already recorded the statements of chairman of the hospital development committee Babulal Yadav and former medical superintendent Dr Ashilesh Prasad Singh for allegedly tampering with the minute book of the committee meeting to appoint unnecessary staffers. [break]

Similarly, two other members of the committee --Radheshyam Sah Sonar and Rekha Ghimire -- also recorded their statements on Thursday.

CIAA started investigation into the appointments after Parsa Chief District Officer Luk Bahadur Chhetri, Local Development Officer Gajendra Thakur and Executive Officer at Birgunj Sub-Metropolitan City Bijaya Dangol, who were also present in the hospital development committee meeting on February 21, registered a complaint with CIAA stating that the meeting had not endorsed appointment of new staffers. As per their complaint, the four committee members had tampered with the original minute book to appoint 42 new staffers in the hospital.

“We have taken the case seriously. Investigation is under way,” said Awadhkishor Prasad Kuswaha, investigation officer of CIAA regional office, Hetauda. Committee chairman Yadav refused to comment on the allegations against him.

On January 13, the Ministry of Health had also directed the hospital to stop arbitrary appointments. However, Yadav and medical superintendent Singh turned a deaf ear and appointed 42 new staffers.
