The remarks of the Chinese ambassador come against the backdrop of China´s ever increasing trade with Nepal in recent years. In a bid to boost trade with Nepal, China has already announced it is to expedite construction of the delayed 16 km road linking Syaprubensi to Rasuwagadi on the border with Tibet."Nepal can serve as an important bridge between China and South Asia for trade and economic development," Ambassador Guohong said.
In his maiden interaction with Nepali journalists since being appointed ambassador to the Himalayan nation last month, Guohong also said that he would try to further boost economic ties with Nepal during his tenure. He said he would make concerted efforts to open more "passages" for trade with Nepal.
"I will persuade Chinese entrepreneurs to invest in Nepal," he said furnishing details about the things to be done during his tenure.
In a separate context, the ambassador reiterated the stance that China would help Nepal´s bid to preserve its independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty. Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, who was in Kathmandu earlier this month, had also voiced a similar stance during his visit.
Ambassador Guohong further said China would increase people-to-people exchanges and high-level political visits to further strengthen bilateral ties between Nepal and China.
