RASUWA, Dec 24: Citing active gold smugglers travelling to and fro from Nepal to China, Chinese authorities have halted motorcycles and light vehicles of Nepal to Kerung border.

Upon knowing that vehicles were installing a false button to smuggle gold, Chinese authorities have been banning light vehicles for the past 15 days. Nepalese side, however, is yet to give an official position on the halt.

Chomendra Neupane, chief district officer of Rasuwa said that he was uninformed about Nepal’s official information on the halt, and that he’d have been informed if the halt for light vehicles was in place. “We are yet to receive official information on the issue.”

After the halt, residents of Rasuwa are using Chinese taxis to commute to the border. Nepal border police post at Timure, however, informed of the halt on light vehicles and two wheelers.

Likewise, ongoing road maintainence on the Chinese side has also led to pile up of containers at the Custom department.
