Deepika Padukone left everyone stunned when she shared her look for her first film with Meghna Gulzar, ‘Chhapaak’. The film that will see the star play an acid attack survivor has become one of the highly anticipated films of 2020.

Speaking in a recent interview, director Meghna admitted that she was surprised that Bollywood beauty even considered the role that required her to shed her superstar image and even her face. Praising Deepika for her grit, Meghna said that it takes a tremendous amount of grounding of oneself to be able to sink into someone else’s skin.According to the report, the director also revealed that the idea for the film came to her while making ‘Talvar’, post which, she got in touch with Laxmi and spent a year working with her and writer Atika Chohan.

When asked if Deepika was her first choice for the role, Meghna admitted that she always had the actress in mind as older photos of Laxmi reminded her of the ‘Padmaavat’ actress. She went on to state that she was taken by surprise by Deepika’s eagerness to do the film as the star was looking for a light project to be a part of.

All said and done, the team recently announced that they have wrapped up work on the film and are scheduled to release it in January 2020.
