KATHMANDU, Jan 22: Passengers are facing problems due to congestion at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). Despite the high passenger traffic, the TIA immigration department has been observed causing delays as only two immigration counters were operational even when five aircraft landed.

Especially in the morning, passengers arriving at the airport from different countries are in trouble. With the operation of only two counters, passengers are forced to stand in line for up to two hours at immigration.

In response to the question of why only two counters were opened despite the increase in the number of passengers, the Immigration Department has informed Republica that there is a lack of staff. "Due to ongoing staff examinations, only one or two counters are currently operational," said an immigration employee.

Despite the airport being open 24 hours a day and hosting 4 to 5 flights, passengers have expressed frustration about having to wait in lengthy queues when immigration counters are not adequately staffed.
