KHOTANG, June 5: Century Commercial Bank Ltd (CCBL) has started distributing housing grants to earthquake survivors of Khotang district.
Local Development Officer (LDO) of Khotang Rajan BC and Chief Engineer of District Technical Office formally started grants distribution by handing over checks to beneficiaries from Kepilashgadi and Lamidada rural municipalities.
A total of 836 beneficiaries from the two rural municipalities will receive Rs 50,000 each as the first installment of housing grant through CCBL.
Similarly, Salapa Bikas Bank started distributing grants to quake survivors four days ago. It will distribute first installment of the grants to 518 beneficiaries of Halesi Tuwachung Municipality and Aiselukharka Rural Municipality.
Along with these two banks, Rastriya Banijya Bank Ltd (RBBL), Bank of Kathmandu Ltd (BoKL) and Jyoti Bikas Bank Ltd (JBBL) are also distributing housing grants to earthquake survivors in the district. While BoKL will distribute grants to quake survivors in Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality, RBBL Diktel branch and JBBL will distribute grants in Sakela Rural Municipality, and Dripung and Barahapokhari rural municipalities, respectively.
Similarly, RBBL Khotang Bazaar branch will distribute grants to beneficiaries in Khotehang and Jantedhunga rural municipalities.
According to District Development Committee (DDC), Khotang, distribution of grants to beneficiaries will be completed within a week. The DDC will begin distribution of second installment of Rs 150,000 after the beneficiaries complete Damp-proof Course (DPC) of their houses. The third installment of Rs 75,000 will be release after roof of the house is built. Likewise, the remaining installment of Rs 25,000 will be deposited in the bank account of the beneficiaries after they build toilets in their house, according to DDC Khotang.
The 2015 earthquakes damaged or destroyed 13,799 houses in Khotang.
