Nepal defeated the United States in the final of the tournament on Saturday at the TU Cricket Ground and qualified for Division 4. It was the first one-day tournament victory for Nepal in their cricketing history.
CAN President Binaya Raj Pandey assured players that they would get maximum international exposure before the Division 4 event. He extended his best wishes to the players for Nepal´s World Cup hopes. "We have been talking about World Cup since long and it is not impossible if we work hard this time," said Pandey.
Likewise, CAN General Secretary Tanka Paneru congratulated players for qualifying for Division 4. Paneru attributed Nepal´s success to the players and insisted on reforms in Nepali cricket.
"We need reform; cricket academy should be established for changing and developing our current status and style," said Paneru.
Paneru also talked about changing wickets in Nepal. "We have to accept that our wickets are not suitable for one-day cricket. We have to change them. We can´t develop our batting strength without doing so and we always can´t win matches relying on our bowlers," said Paneru. Paneru added that the players´ career and livelihood would be CAN´s top agenda.
Captain Paras Khadka handed over the Division 5 trophy to CAN President Pandey during the function.
