KATHMANDU, May 3: Nepali Congress (NC) candidates contesting the upcoming local level elections have been elected unopposed in various districts including Manang, Myagdi, Gorkha and Sindhupalchowk.
Speaking at a regular press briefing held at the party’s headquarters in Sanepa on Wednesday, NC leader Ramesh Lekhak informed the media that NC candidate of Marphu Rural Municipality in Manang district, Mingma Chhiring Lama was elected unopposed as the chief of the municipality on Tuesday.
Lekhak, who also heads the party’s Local Election 2017 Central Publicity Coordination Sub-committee, also said that NC candidates for various positions in Myagdi, Gorkha and Sindhupalchowk districts were also elected unopposed.
10 candidates elected unopposed in local polls in Taplejung
According to Lekhak, NC candidate Ek Bahadur Garbuja of Raghu Ganga Rural Municiapality in Myagdi was elected unopposed as chairman of ward number 3. In Kuine Mangale VDC in the district, NC ward candidates Khab Bahadur Chhantyal, woman candidate Preeti Garbuja and Dalit woman candidate Yam Kumari Gotame were also elected unopposed.
In Gorkha, Bir Bahadur Lama, Pemba Ritar and Sopa Gyalten Lama Gurung were elected as chairman of ward number 1, 3 and 5, respectively, of Chumnapree Rural Municipality. Dalit woman candidate Sunita Sunuwar of ward number 5 of Tripurasundari Rural Muncipality in Sindhupalchowk district is also among the NC candidates elected unopposed.
2 UML chairmen candidates elected unopposed
Likewise, two CPN-UML candidates in Dolpa district were also elected unopposed, according to the party.
Tashi Tundup Gurung in Shey Phoksundo Rural Municipality and Lanka Bahadur Rokaya in Dolpo Buddha Rural Municipality were elected unopposed from the party. UML members were elected unopposed as ward chairmen in various 21 of the total 65 wards in the district.
Similarly in Dhading, CPN (Maoist Center) candidate Sun Maya Kami has been elected unopposed as Dalit woman candidate from ward number 1 of Ganga Jamuna Rural Municipality.
