KATMANDU, SEPT 5: Candidacy nomination for the third round of local elections is taking place on Wednesday.
The Election Commission (EC), which has already conducted local polls in six of the seven provinces in two phases, is holding the final round of elections in Province 2 on September 18. The election body on Tuesday said all preparations for poll arrangements have been completed. "I urge all political parties and independent candidates to register their candidacies. Poll officers are already standby and candidates can register their candidacies from 10 am to 5 pm Wednesday," Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav told reporters on Tuesday.
Candidacy nomination for upper house poll today
Altogether 6,627 people's representatives including 136 chiefs of local units will be elected through the elections. Elections for one metropolitan city, 3 sub-metropolitan cities, 73 municipalities and 59 rural municipalities of Province 2 are scheduled for September 18.
The election body has fixed 2,166 polling centers for the elections while 31,500 civil servants have been deployed to manage the elections. The election law has a provision to elect a woman chief or deputy chief from each local unit. Similarly, the law has a mandatory provision of electing at least a woman member and a Dalit woman at the ward level.
