KATHMANDU, March 23: The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has urged Nepali fans to behave during the ACC T20 Cup that kicks off in Kathmandu on Tuesday.

CAN made such appeal on Saturday keeping in mind the unruly behavior of Nepali supporters during the last edition of the tournament held in the capital some 16 months ago. [break]On that occasion, Nepali cricket fans had hurled stones at the ground during Nepal´s match against the UAE bringing disrepute to Nepali cricket.

“We have got the opportunity to host the tournament only after assuring proper security for the tournament,” said Ashok Nath Pyakurel, general secretary of CAN.

“We are trying to do our best to maintain security. But it would be better if the the fans refrain from unruly activities,” he added.

Nepal has been hosting international tournaments regularly since 2004. However, Nepal was denied opportunity to hold any international event last year.

Pyakurel said CAN has requested the government to provide security personnel to meet security standards set by the International Cricket Council.

CAN believes that it will be easier to manage security this time around as it is introducing ticket system, which is basically aimed at keeping gatecrashers at bay. The tickets are priced at Rs 100.

CAN President Tanka Angbuhang said they are ready to reward the Nepali team if it wins the tournament.

“If the Nepali team excels in the tournament we are ready to double their incentives,” said Angbuhang.

Six months ago, CAN had awarded each member of the Nepali squad with Rs 30,000 each for their success in the ICC World Cricket League Division 4 and ACC Trophy Elite last year.

Meanwhile, CAN has made a change in the team management. Anup Thapa, who was given the responsibility of team manager, will stay out due to his personal obligation. CAN member Sanjeev Pandey will replace Thapa as the team manager.

Three teams have already arrived in Kathmandu to participate in the tournament. Bahrain was the first team to arrive on Friday, followed by Singapore and Malaysia on Saturday. Malaysia is being coached by Nepal´s former coach Roy Luke Dias. Other six teams will arrive in the capital on Sunday while it is still not known when Afghanistan and the UAE will arrive for the tournament.
