A cabinet meeting held on Monday took a decision to this effect as existing Passport Regulation did not mention anything about the type of passport to be provided to such officials. The chairpersons of all parliamentary committees in the provincial parliament, and chiefs of metropolitan city, justices of High Court shall also be entitled to receive diplomatic passport as per the cabinet decision.

According to Director General of Department of Passport Ram Kaji Khadka, the revision was made as the existing Passport Regulation does not speak anything about many officials under the federal setup. The chiefs and deputy chiefs of District Coordination Committee and chiefs of Municipality and Rural Muncipality will now receive special (blue) passport. However, deputy chiefs and other members of the local bodies are not entitled to any such privilege.
