BUSINESS BRIEFS: Nepse up by 1.79 points

KATHMANDU, June 22:  Despite loss in sub-indices of most of the trading groups, Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index rose marginally by 1.79 points to close at 470.4 points on Tuesday.



The Sensitive Index -- that measures the trading of Category ´A´ companies -- also rose by 0.64 points to settle at 114.99 points. ´Others´ group was the sole gainer on the day when the sub-indices of all trading groups plummeted. The sub-index posted double-digit growth of 21.214 points to close the day´s trading at 538.13 points

Banking and Development Bank groups saw their sub-indices go down by 2.12 points and 2.53 points to settle at 448.88 points and 483.2 points respectively.



Similarly, Hydropower, Finance and Insurance groups also witnessed decline in their sub-indices by 3.38 points, 0.9 points and 1.49 points to close at 712.31 points, 416.51 points and 558.73 points respectively.



Total turnover dropped to Rs 22.87 millions on Tuesday from Rs 45.72 million recorded a day earlier. The number of shares traded also declined to 63,245 units from 158,539 units recorded on Monday. Total market capitalization, however, went up to 368.69 billion from Rs 367.29 billion.



NCC´s new deposit scheme


KATHMANDU, June 22: NCC Bank introduced new fixed deposit account -- NCC Platinum Fixed Deposit -- on Tuesday. Under this account, the account holders can get 12 percent interest return. The minimum balance required to open this account is Rs 500,000, the bank said in a statement, adding that the new scheme is valid only for 120 days.



"This account can be opened in any of NCC Bank´s branches across the country. The bank operates with a network of 17 branches, including five in the capital.



Spice launches two new sets

KATHMANDU, June 22: Teletalk Private limited -- the sole authorized distributor of Spice mobile phones in Nepal -- has launched two new handsets -- M-5055 and C-5060 -- in the market. M-5050 is a multi-SIM (GSM+GSM) set priced Rs.3590 and C-5060 is a CDMA SIM series available at Rs 3,650.



“These two sets are introduced with different modern technologies at affordable prices,” the company said in a press statement issued on Tuesday. M-5050 has one touch torch, dust free keypad, 1000 mAh battery, expandable Memory up to 4 GB camera with video playback, wireless FM with recording, WAP/GPRS and fun spice applications among others, the statement added.



C-5060 has functions like camera and video recording, 9x zoom, 1500 mAh battery, dual LED torch, expandable memory up to 2 GB and mobile tracker, among others.
