BUSINESS BRIEFS: ADB reaffirms support to Nepal

KATHMANDU, Jan 13: Xiaoyu Zhao, Vice-president of Operations of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), has reassured that it would continue to assist Nepal.



While reaffirming ADB´s continued support to Nepal´s poverty reduction and development efforts, Zhao also urged Nepal government to stay focused on the country´s reform and development agenda, while taking the peace and constitution drafting process forward. [break]



Zhao also held consultations with Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and Finance Minister Surendra Pandey and senior government officials and development partners.



“Given the more than doubling of ADB´s assistance to Nepal in the past five years, ADB also seeks the Government´s support for strengthening the implementation of development projects with tangible development impacts in terms of poverty reduction and improved standard of living of the Nepali people,” said Zhao.



MoU between FNCCI and WTCA



FNCCI and World Trade Centre Association, USA signed an agreement to expand business relations. FNCCI said it believed the agreement will benefit both the parties in financial and business fronts. FNCCI President Kush Kumar Joshi signed the agreement representing FNCCI.



“According to the agreement, both parties are to work together in order to explore the possibilities of development in the days to come. The agreement also included the possibilities of exporting Nepali products to the United States of America and support to promote the products there,” FNCCI said in a press statement Thursday.



A team six from Nepal -- Kush Kumar Joshi, Ratis Basnet, Shankar Shrestha, Basanta Kumar Shrestha, Gunnidhi Tiwari and Ammarraj Aacharya - visiting the US also observed the printing, packaging and wood industries there. “The team also met with Shankar Prasad Sharma, the Nepali ambassador to the USA and talked to him about the possibilities of further expanding business relations between Nepal and the USA,” the statement further said.



LSG Sky Chefs gets Halal certification



LSG Sky Chefs, airline catering facility operated by Soaltee Crowne Plaza, has received the Halal compliance certification from the LSG Sky Chefs Brahim Halal Excellence Center in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The facility got the certification last December after meeting all of the strict Halal production requirements designed under the guidance and support of the center. “This certification is a reflection of hard work and service excellence of our team,” said Vini K Gupta, general manager of Soaltee Crowne Plaza at a program Thursday.



Mark Northmore, LSG Sky Chefs´ General Manager Thailand and Myanmar also expressed his happiness over the certification. LSG Sky Chefs produce some 1,800 total airline meals per day for international customers like Qatar Airways, Gulf Air, Etihad Airways, Dragon Air, China Southern Airlines, GMG Airlines and Nepal Airlines. They also service VIP flights, regular charter flights and UN charter flights carrying Nepalese troops to peacekeeping missions around the world.
