On July 14, V responded to a fan’s post on BTS Weverse—the group’s new global fan community—by revealing that he was experiencing the symptoms of his chronic condition at the moment. The idol wrote in his comment, “No, I have a cholinergic allergy. I’m itchy, itchy.”

Cholinergic urticaria, which is most commonly found in young adults, is a type of skin rash that typically manifests as a number of small, itchy red bumps. In severe cases, the hives may cause a stinging sensation in addition to itching, and the condition may also cause abdominal pain, dizziness, or difficulty breathing.

Because cholinergic urticaria is brought on by a rise in body temperature, the condition may occur for any number of reasons: exercising, taking a hot bath or shower, or even emotional stress.

Shortly after V made his post on BTS Weverse, “cholinergic hives” began trending on multiple Korean portal sites as fans sought to learn more about the condition, and the search term eventually hit No. 1 in Naver’s realtime search rankings.
