BRIEF NEWS: Germany donates vehicle to CIB

KATHMANDU, Dec 15: The German government has donated a vehicle worth Rs 3.6 million to the recently formed Crime Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police.



According to a press statement issued by the German embassy in Kathmandu, the keys of the new Toyota Hiace were handed over to Deputy Inspector General of Police Surendra Bahadur Shah at a ceremony held at the Nepal Police Headquarters, Naxal on Wednesday. [break]



Deputy Head of Mission of the German embassy Henning Hansen and Liaison Officer of the German Federal Office of Criminal Investigation Kerstin Schneider reiterated the German government´s longstanding commitment to support Nepal in various fields.



Campaign against border encroachment



POKHARA: The Cheetri Society has launched a campaign against rampant encroachment of Nepali territory in the areas bordering India. The society in a statement has informed that it will inspect encroached areas and will exert pressure on India to return encroached territories.



“We will exert pressure on the government of Nepal and India to settle the issue through negotiations,” said Kumar Khadka, general secretary of the society.



Australian envoy inaugurates computer lab



KATHMANDU: Australian Ambassador to Nepal Susan Grace on Thursday inaugurated a computer lab at Jalbai Devi Secondary School, Duwachaur VDC-9, Sindhupalchowk. According to a press statement issued by the Australian Embassy in Kathmandu, the embassy under its Direct Aid Program (DAP) 2009-10 provided Rs 1.24 million to a local non-government organization, Child Nepal, to set up a computer lab in the school, with 15 computers, a printer, an inverter, solar electricity system for backup electricity, internet access and a teacher trained in computer education. The Australian government´s Official Development Assistance to Nepal for the financial year 2010-2011 is AUD 18.44 million. The DAP this year funded eight projects worth Rs 11.4 million.



One killed in accident



TANAHU: A man returning from hospital after treatment died when the ambulance he was traveling on veered off a cliff at Mirkot-7, Chapapani Wednesday. Lila Bahadur Adhikari of Mirkot-7 was killed in the accident while driver Khil Bahadur Sunar of Makaisingh, Gorkha and Bhairav Basnet of Market were seriously injured when the ambulance fell around 200 meters below. Police said the injured duo is being treated at Gorkha District Hospital.
