Boy missing for three days after drowning in Sunkoshi, APF divers to be deployed

Nepal Police have intensified search efforts for 16-year-old Sabin Rai from Dikuwa-2, Halesi Tuwachung Municipality, who went missing three days ago after disappearing in the Sunkoshi River.

KHOTANG, May 26: Nepal Police have intensified search efforts for 16-year-old Sabin Rai from Dikuwa-2, Halesi Tuwachung Municipality, who went missing three days ago after disappearing in the Sunkoshi River.


Sabin went missing while swimming in the river on Saturday. Relatives, locals, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force (APF) have been deployed to search for him.


Ward Chair Devendra Rai said that Sabin, son of Bindra Keshar Rai from Okhlang, Dikuwa, was swept away by the river at around 11 am on Saturday. Despite continuous search efforts by locals and security personnel since the incident, Sabin has yet to be found.

According to Police Inspector Raj Bista of the Khotang District Police Office, police teams from Halesi Police Station and Chyasmitar Police Post have been deployed to the site where Sabin went missing. A team led by ward member Suraj Adhikari from Dikuwa is searching along the banks of the Sunkoshi River.


The District Security Committee has confirmed that Nepal Police and APF teams are actively involved in the search and rescue operation at the site.


After three days of no sign of Sabin, the district security committee has been urged to deploy divers to intensify the search, said Bimala Rai, mayor of Halesi Tuwachung Municipality.


The District Security Committee coordinator and Chief District Officer Narahari Ghimire said that preparations are underway to deploy a team of APF divers. “The Nepal Police and APF teams deployed from the district are still at the site, but nothing has been found so far,” he said. “Discussions are ongoing about bringing in divers for the search. If the current teams fail to find Sabin, we plan to hold a security committee meeting tomorrow to finalize deploying divers.”


Principal Teja kumar Chamling Rai said that the missing Sabin is a Grade 10 student at Chyasmitar Secondary School of Khotang.
