KATHMANDU, Nov 3: If you are a Queen fanatic or if any of the band’s song is your daily hum, the movie is a must-watch. ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ will literally give you goose bumps throughout the entire movie. The movie, being distributed by the 20th Century Fox, tells the story about formation of a band and their journey of delivering series of hits. Other than Freddie Mercury, the movie also serves the journey of the legendary British rock band, Queen.

Directed by Bryan Singer, director of the blockbuster X-Men movies, the first half of the film shows rise of the band and making of its universally loved song ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’. The other half shows Mercury’s time as a solo artist and the legendary ‘Live Aid’ charity concert held on July 13, 1985 at the Wembley Stadium. The performance at ‘Live Aid’ is often considered as Queen’s greatest live show.

The actors have justified this 90- minute’s movie. Rami Malek, casted as Freddie Mercury, gives an astounding performance. His emotional rollercoaster performance is bang on. From sadness to immediate jokes, joy and fun, Malek’s acting is worth admiring. Aside from the act of the anticipated Best Actor contender for the Oscars(as per the viewers), the   transformations of Gwilym Lee, Ben Hardy and Joseph Mazzello as Queen band members Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon equally rationalizes Malek’s real transformation to the legendary Freddie Mercury.

The movie picturises the making of Queen’s hits like ‘We Will Rock You’, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and ‘Love of My Life’ – A song which Mercury wrote for his then fiancée, Mary Austin. The movie, however, is more focused in giving more attention to Mercury’s relationship with his long time companion, Mary Austin (played by Lucy Boynton). The aspect of Freddie’s encounterwith AIDS and the relationship with the band is less considered.

Some sad scenes in the movie leave the audiences in tears while a few scenes like ‘the album tour’ and the performance at crowded Wembley Stadium during ‘Live Aid’ triggers goose bumps. The movie also depicts the dispute in the band after Mercury signed a solo deal without his band mates’ knowledge.

Despite the ride to success of the band and Mercury’s encounter with AIDS, Bohemian Rhapsody also focuses on the sexuality of Mercury. Though sexuality isn’t the only priority, the movie also shows how happy Mercury lives his homosexual life. Despite this, he still loves his ex fiancé and he wants her back.

In a retrospect, the movie explains and delivers the message that it is difficult leaving the love of your life even after you understand that you could hurt him/her. All it requires is forgiveness.
