NEPALGUNJ, Jan 2: Enraged locals of Nepalgunj on Monday blocked the city’s roads in various sections demanding compensation to the family of a person who was killed in a road accident.
They have also demanded action against a truck driver who killed a pedestrian on Monday.
Kohalpur-Chisapani road blocked
The truck with registration number NA 7 KHA 17 hit Tejan Thapa Magar, a resident of Ward No. 18 of Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City, near Bhanubhakta Chowk of New Road, Nepalgunj resulting in his untimely death. The locals and the relatives of the deceased have blocked the roads at Karkado, Ranjha, Bhujaigaun and other places under Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City since 11 am on Monday.
Spokesperson for the District Police Office Banke and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ram Prasad Gharti Magar said that the families and relatives of the deceased started the protest demanding action against the driver. Although the police took the truck and the driver under custody, the family of the deceased alleged that the police did not take the incident seriously.
The protest is backed by students of various academic institutions. DSP Gharti Magar said that the issue of compensating the victim’s family is yet to be discussed because the truck owner was not present. The family members of the deceased have refused to claim the body.
