BHAKTAPUR, APRIL 10- The Bisket Jatra celebrated for a week on the arrival of the New Year began here by towing the chariot of Bhairavnath from local Taumadhi.The towing of the chariot began Tuesday evening.
The locals from the upper and lower belt of Taumadhi area pull the chariot to their respective communities. The chariot is pulled till midnight and stationed at Gahiti.

The cultural festival run as per tantric rituals is said to have begun before the Lichhavi era. The history shows that King Jagatjyoti Malla managed to mark this festival in a grand manner.
The jatra was made more systematic by King Bhupatindra Malla in Nepal Sambat 827.In course of the bisket jatra, lingo (wooden pole with festoons on top) is raised on the eve of the New Year. (All pictures by Dipendra Rokka)
