Birgunj held to draw

KATHMANDU, Jan 30: Birgunj Youth Academy, which finished third in the last edition of Martyrs Memorial Red Bull B Division Football League, was held to a goalless draw by Shree Kumari Club in its first match of the league campaign on Wednesday at the APF ground, Halchowk.



With the draw, Shree Kumari secured its place at the top of the standings for at least 24 hours with four points from two matches. Birgunj collected one point.



Earlier, Swayambhu Club came from a goal down to edge past Mahabir Studies and Athletics Association 2-1 in its first match and go level on points with Tusal, Satdobato, Boys Union and Samajik Club. All of them have three points each while Mahabir is pointless.



Curfew Rasaili scored two minutes before the interval for Swayambhu to cancel Mahabir´s 18th minute lead taken through Jeetendra Dhimal. Raju Mandal netted the winning goal in the 74th minute.

In the second match of the day, Boys Union Club defeated Kathmandu Club 2-1. Ashik Thapa Magar put Boys Union ahead in the 45th minute and Kiran Rai doubled the tally in the 50th minute. Santosh Chhetri scored the only goal for Kathmandu Club in the 78th minute. Kathmandu Club is yet to earn a point.



Chyasal Youth Club will lock horns with Brigade Boys Club while Pulchowk Sports Club will meet United Youth Club on Thursday.
