Biratnagar jewelry shops closed on day 2

BIRATNAGAR, June 13: The jewelry shops in Biratnagar remained closed for the second day Thursday at the call of the Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers´ Association (NEGOSIDA) central committee.



The shops would be closed indefinitely until the demands put forth by the Association are met, stated the NEGOSIDA Biratnagar chapter.



The gold and silver dealers are in protest calling for the fulfillment of their demands including easing the gold supply, incorporating their suggestions while formulating rules for market monitoring and providing concession in the import of modern machinery for making jewelry, among others.



There are more than 150 gold and silver dealers in Morang district. It is said over 1,500 people are directly and indirectly employed in this business and craft.
