Bhutanese King keen to visit Nepal

KATHMANDU, June 15: Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck has expressed his desire to visit Nepal.

King Wangchuck expressed his desire to visit Nepal next year during his meeting with Minister for Physical Infrastructures and Transport Bimalendra Nidhi in Thimpu on Monday. He said he is keen to visit to Nepal, saying the country is his birth place.During the one-hour long meeting, King Wangchuck expressed concern about the loss of lives and properties during the earthquake that hit Nepal on April 25 and later again on May 12. While over 8,600 people lost their lives, billions-worthinfrastructures was destroyed during the earthquake.

At the meeting, the king had also inquired about the motor vehicle agreement between Nepal, Bhutan, India and Bangladesh and relief and rescue efforts made to assist the earthquake victims. Bhutani Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay was the first foreign head of government to come to Kathmandu to support Nepal after April 25 quake.

Tobgay along with Health Minister Tandin Wangchuk travelled to Kathmandu in a special Druk Air flight carrying 63 other rescue team members that included doctors, nurses, support staff and trained volunteers in disaster operation. Prime Minister Tobgay also handed over $1 million as financial support to Nepal from Bhutan.
