Banquet halls and party palaces say they had to raise prices to set off losses in the face of rise in prices of food commodities, vegetables oil and ghee, and spices in the market along with a rise in salaries and allowances of their staff.

Sonu Shakya, accountant at Durbar Banquet at Soalteemode, said that they had increased the price by 25 to 35 percent due to rise in prices of commodities in the market. The company at present serves dinner at the minimum rate of Rs 625 per person.
“Though the prices of commodities have increased by up to 40 percent compared to last year, we have increased the price by 20 percent only so that our customers do not suffer much,” said Tebindra Ratna Shakya, owner of Chhetrapati Party Palace.
Namaste Kitchen and Banquet at Gairidhara has also increased its prices. “We decided to increase the price as almost all raw materials have become dearer by 30 to 40 percent and we also have to increase the salary of our staffs,” said Pushpa Bahadur Paudel, one of the proprietors of the banquet.
Yeti Palace at Basundhara has also increased their prices in line with the increase in prices of raw materials. “We have increased the price by around 30 percent as we have to buy materials at a higher price compared to last year,” said Mahesh Chapaigain, a staff at the party palace.
