BIRGUNJ, Feb 20: Normal life in Birgunj has been affected due to two-day Madhes banda (general strike) called by a faction of Madhesi Peoples’ Rights Forum led by Bhagya Nath Gupta starting Friday.
Educational institutions, transportation and other businesses in Birgunj, one of the major commercial hubs in the country, have remained totally closed today due to the strike. The group launched protests demanding a single Madhes state.
The demonstrators vandalized a bus with registration number Na 3 Kha 1350 while it was en route to Kalaiya from Birgunj. The protestors have blocked roads by burning tires at several places in the market from early morning.
The demonstrators have also started protesting in Kalaiya, the headquarters of Bara district.
