Army officer dies in Haiti

KATHMANDU, April 12: A Nepal Army officer deployed for UN peacekeeping mission in Haiti died after an M-16 rifle he was carrying went off automatically.



NA´s Directorate of Public Relations on Monday confirmed that Lance Corporal Rewat Bahadur Darai, serving in the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), died on April 10 while returning from his patrol duty. [break]



The bullet pierced through his neck to the head and he was declared dead at a hospital in the Haitian capital of Port-Au-Prince.



Darai hailed from Nawalparasi and was serving in the 10th Division of Chandannath Battalion. He was posted at the 6th Division of Shree Sher Singh Division in Haiti.



The statement also added that an investigation into the incident has been initiated by a Board of Inquiry under Guatemala Military Police Company.
