ITAHARI, April 4: Tribhuvan Army Club has moved closer to the title win of the third Manmohan Duhabi Gold Cup football tournament with a 2-0 win over Three Star Club in Itahari on Wednesday.
In the first semifinal match at the Duhabi Stadium, a fast pace game along with teamwork helped the departmental team Army beat Three Star and reach the final. It was Three Star’s dismal performance in comparison to its other games.
Three Star into Duhabi Gold Cup semis
The first half ended goalless after both the teams failed to convert their chances. Army scored its first goal of the match in the 51st minute and Tek Bahadur Budathoki doubled the lead in the 66th minute to seal the game. Captain Khawas was named the man of the match and was rewarded with Rs 10,000.
Army had sealed a place in the semifinals with Three Star with a comfortable 5-0 win over Church Boys United. Previously, the departmental side had thrashed host Eleven Arose Club Duhabi 4-1 to reach the last four.
Army will now take on the winner of the second semifinal match between Mechi Netralaya Kakarbhitta Football Training Center of Jhapa and Cameroon’s Dauphins Football Club scheduled for Thursday. The final match will be played on Saturday.
The winner and runner-up of the tournament will bag a purse of Rs 600,000 and Rs 300,000 respectively. The football event is organized by Manmohan Memorial Trust in partnership with home team Eleven Arrows Club.
