KATHMANDU, Feb 20: Metropolitan Police Range Office has arrested an Indian national attempting to loot a financial institution in Kathmandu. Three others of his gang are absconding.

Police have also seized a huge quantity of duplicate cosmetic items of various popular brands and arrested three businessmen selling the low-quality products.

According to Metropolitan Police Range Office, Kathmandu, Sunil Singh, 18, of Gorakhpur, India was arrested in possession of a home-made pistol when his gang was about to rob a money change office at Ghantaghar Thursday. Police have also seized one round of ammunition and a motorcycle from the arrested youth.

Talking to media persons at his office Friday afternoon, Superintendent of Police Nawa Raj Silwal, chief of Metropolitan Police Range Office, Kathmandu, said they have identified those involved in the incident and police have been mobilized to arrest those absconding.

SP Silwal said they have mobilized plain-clothes police to watch over financial institutions after receiving credible information that armed robbers are targeting them. “The arrest has come in the course of our vigilance,” he said.

Police have initiated legal action against the arrested Singh on the charge of illegal arms possession.

Meanwhile, police also seized a huge quantity of duplicate cosmetic items of various popular brands available in the market.

SP Silwal said they have arrested three persons -- Bhola Bhusal, manager of Bindhbasini Impex, Prakash Silwal of Roshani International and Nawa Raj Malakar of Ajaya Stores in Kathmandu -- in connection with the selling of the duplicate brands and cheating the public.

The seized cosmetic items include Garnier color naturals, Garnier True White Facial, Sun Control Daily Moistorisers, Pure Ex Foliating Face Wash, Garnier Apricot Scrub, Garnier Moisture Liquid Foundation, Garnier Face and Body Sun Block and other Garnier brand items.

SP Silwal said the seized items are found to be manufactured in China and businessmen in Kathmandu sell them to make a big profit. “Businessmen are found selling these cheap items to reap large profits and cheat ordinary consumers,” he said. “Our action is aimed at protecting ordinary consumers.”
