In the women´s singles category, Durga Kumari Bhandari of Kailali, Dilu Subba of Jhapa and Bindu Shrestha of Nawalparasi won their respective matches to advance into the second round.
Bhandari defeated Juna Shrestha of Nawalparasi 21-7, 21-8; Subba crushed Shiva Chand of Kathmandu 21-4, 21-9 and Shrestha ousted Durga Kumari Thapa of Bajura 21-8, 21-9 in their opening matches.
In the men´s singles, Bajura´s Prakash Rawal saw off Bishal Shrestha 21-15, 21-12; Gokul Tamang of Kathmandu beat Ram Kumar Thapa of Bhaktapur 21-11, 21-9; Basanta Gurung of Taplejung defeated Bidur Thapa of Ilam 21-8, 21-8 and Prakash Limbu of Sindhupalchowk overcame Min Bahadur Khadka of Nawalparasi 21-8, 21-8 in their first round matches.
Earlier, National Sports Council Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama inaugurated the championship. The six-day event features 400 players vying for 12 golds in both men´s and women´s categories.
