KATHMANDU, Jan 20: A security base of Armed Police Force (APF) has been established at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) Customs Office.
In a press conference organized in Kathmandu on Saturday on the occasion of its 23rd establishment day, the APF announced that the base was established a week ago for the enhancement of security at TIA.
The security base of APF has been established at a time when gold smuggling cases at TIA are increasing. Spokesperson for the APF Nepal, Rajendra Khadka informed Republica that the base was established so that a team of 30 individuals would be mobilized under the command of an Inspector of Armed Police Force to ensure effective customs checks and to enhance security.

Similarly, APF Nepal has also established eight disaster management bases in every province so that they can be mobilized immediately in the event of disasters.
Spokesperson Khadka also said that these bases have been established for immediate deployment in disaster management tasks. To address the evolving security challenges, the APF has established a Sub-Branch of Counter-Terrorism. Spokesperson Khadka said that work is being done by setting up a dedicated desk to prevent the misuse of social media.
The APF has launched a Post Graduate Diploma in Security and Disaster Management Studies Program at Matatirtha in Kathmandu to prepare specialized manpower for disaster management and border security.
APF Spokesperson also said that it is mandatory to pass the course for the promotion of the officers of the APF. Similarly, APF has also adopted a policy of minimizing the use of plastic materials as much as possible domestically under its environment-friendly program.
The press conference also stated that APF Nepal Hospital has been arranged in all provinces. Spokesperson Khadka said that those hospitals have been brought into operation so that the armed police deployed in the field can get necessary medical treatment at the same place.
