POKHARA, Jan 8: 'Apartment culture' is slowly picking up steam in Pokhara. Currently, there are three apartment projects in the city. While two projects are under construction, people have already moved into one. Dipma Dip Housing of Pokhara municipality has 38 apartments.  There are 107 apartments undergoing construction in  Nadipur, Pokhara-3.  An eight-floor apartment building is being constructed in Pasryang.

The apartments in Nadipur are in the process of being transferred to clients within a year. The investors in this project are B&B Housing, Comfort and Goodwill Developers Private Ltd and other private investors.  The 6.5 ropani land will have three apartment buildings which is being constructed using earthquake resistance technology. There will be parking space for 116 vehicles. According to Bimal Basyal, director of B&B Housing, the cost of the project is Rs 1.4 billion.

The size of the apartment ranges from 888 square feet to 1,006 square feet. The cost of two-bedroom apartment is Rs 10.23 million and the cost of four-bedroom apartment is Rs 20.30 million. The apartments are in close proximity to the main market area of Mahendra Pul. The apartment buildings cover three ropanis whereas the remaining areas will be used to provide various facilities to the clients such as swimming pool, jacuzzi, yoga, and gym halls.

“Secured accommodation and provision of various facilities have attracted people of Pokhara to apartment buildings,” said Basyal. “We have made a target to provide apartment within a year and working according to it,” said Gun Khar Sapkota, director and operator of Comfort and Goodwill Developers Private Ltd. Sapkota also pointed to the fact that apartment buildings saves the use of land in the city and accommodate more people in a small area while providing much needed revenue to the government.

According to Sapkota, the waste management for the apartment buildings will be done in-house before sending it out to local waste management company and treated drinking water will be available to the clients. In mid-January, B&B Housing will begin construction of 12-floor apartments in Sedi of Pokhara. They were planning to construct 17-floor apartments a year ago but the municipality did not provide the permission which made the company change the design to 12-floors.
