KATHMANDU, May 6: Parliamentarians have urged the government to address hindrances to effectively implement the policies and programs this year. The parliamentarians, Sarita Giri and Sher Bahadur Tamang highlighted how governments had repeatedly failed to assess the hindrances of development despite lacklustre development.

The parliamentarians said that structural bottlenecks and corruption would be the key to implement programs if it is to be different from the previous government.  The inability to complete projects, including mega-projects, is affecting our economy and development, Sarita Giri, a parliamentarian from Terai-Madhesh Loktantrik Party said. She questioned why the current and past governments had failed to strengthen effective delivery and said that Nepali Congress and the Nepal Communist Party had to take responsibility of Nepal’s underdevelopment.

“The two parties have been on power and they should be held accountable,” Giri said.

Parliamentarian from the Nepal Communist Party, Sher Bahadur Tamang, hoped that government would trickle down development like the past, especially because of the two-thirds majority that the KP Sharma Oli led government had.

“We have always brought cent percent policies. When the policies become programs, it drops to 80%. As we do not have sufficient budget, the programs are reduced to 50%. The systematic hurdles to utilize the allocated budget reduce implementation to 30%. Then, the untimely release of budget leads to 20% development,” he said.
