Investors lured to invest in stock exchange market
KATHMANDU, March 9: Demat accounts registration has crossed 3.12 million units as an increasing number of investors are attracted to invest in the country’s stock exchange market.
Investors told to close multiple demat accounts within 35 days
According to the CDS and Clearing Limited, the demat accounts have increased by a notable number mainly in the last seven months of the current fiscal year. As of mid-August this year, the number stood at 1.85 million. During the review period, an additional around 1.3 million individuals were found to have opened new accounts.
Purchasing primary shares has been the topmost priority of the new investors. The records with the CDS and Clearing shows that in the past seven months, 1.6 million individuals have invested in initial public offerings issued by various listed companies. Similarly, around 500,000 investors purchased shares in the secondary market in the said period.
The authorities made demat transaction mandatory in the Nepal Stock Exchange from August 2015.
