Accused of rape, ward chairman remanded into judicial custody

BAITADI, July 26: Sharad Singh Negi, the ward president of Baitadi's Melauli Municipality-1, has been sent to jail on the charge of rape. A single bench of District Court Judge Tilak Bahadur Karki ordered him to be remanded in custody.

BAITADI, July 26: Sharad Singh Negi, the ward president of Baitadi's Melauli Municipality-1, has been sent to jail on the charge of rape. A single bench of District Court Judge Tilak Bahadur Karki ordered him to be remanded in custody.


On the charge of raping a 28-year-old woman on March 29, 2022, Keshav Singh Negi of the same place along with Ward chairman Negi was arrested on June 28. According to the District Police Office Police Inspector Lokraj Joshi, both of them have been remanded in custody.

The police investigated and submitted the case to the court after the court extended the deadline. The victim is under the protection of her family. Negi was elected from the CPN-UML as the chairman of Melauli Municipality-1 in the local elections held on May 13.
