Aarif inspires Nepal Blue to thumping win

KATHMANDU, Dec 1: Skipper Aarif Sheikh's all-round show helped Nepal Blue beat Team Green, captained by Rajbir Singh, by 81 runs in the U-19 Double Round-robin League cricket event on Tuesday. Aarif scored 35 runs and bagged highest four wickets to help Team Blue thrash Team Green at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Grounds, Kirtipur.

Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) is holding the event to select players for the ICC U-19 World Cup to be held in Bangladesh from January 22 to February 14 next year.Winning the toss and opting to bat first, Team Blue scored 229/9 in allotted 50 overs with Pawan Thapa contributing 49 runs off 59 balls that included eight boundaries. Sandeep Sunar added 45 runs off 40 balls hitting a six and four boundaries. Ishan Pandey added 23 runs and Aasif Sheikh contributed 20 runs. Skipper Aarif, who played 74 balls, smashed two sixes and two fours.

Avinash Bohara and Lalit Rajbanshi claimed two wickets each, while Aakash Bista, Divyanshu Malik, Kushal Bhurtel and Bhim Sarki pocketed a wicket each for Team Green.

In reply, Team Green was bundled out for 148 runs in 42.4 overs as Aarif claimed four wickets giving away only 27 runs in 10 overs as he maintained three maiden overs.

Similarly, Irshad Ahmed picked up three wickets bowling 10 overs and conceding only 21 runs. He maintained two maiden overs.

Likewise, Rijan Dhakal pocketed two and Dipesh Shrestha claimed a wicket for Team Blue.

Himanshu Dutta was highest scorer for Team Green with 31 runs off 65 balls that included two fours. Kushal added 24 runs off only 17 balls hitting five boundaries.
