The Forum, organized through a partnership of UN agencies, young people, civil society and private sector, will begin from December 4 and will continue till December 6 and agree on global recommendations for action on five crucial issues that include staying healthy, comprehensive education, transitions to decent employment for youth, sexuality, families and rights and fully inclusive civic participation.[break]
The Forum is being organized with aims to give young people a stronger voice and their concrete recommendations will go directly to the UN Secretary General and will influence the global development goals for the next 20 years.
The International Steering Committee has agreed on the official delegates who will cover all UN state members, who are given, through the Forum, the context to formulate operational ideas that will have a profound influence on future policy at national, regional and global level, keeping human rights at the heart of development.
“Young people are the experts on what young people need. We don’t want to be the object of the program – we want to be involved in what happens now and what happens next. We want to be part of the planning, part of the monitoring, part of the evaluation”, said Nur Hidayati Handayani, National Coordinator for Alliansi Remaja Independen (ARI) and member of the UNFPA Indonesia Youth Advisory Panel to the ICPD Beyond 2014 team about ICPD, in a press statement.
The influence of the Forum is not limited to the delegates in Bali - acknowledging that young people around the globe are receptive to virtual and social network communication; ICPD Beyond 2014 will provide them with the necessary tools to enable them to contribute views and recommendations online.
Through the Virtual Delegate Platform, the virtual delegates will follow online the conferences in the Forum and their recommendations will be fed into the proceedings and outcomes from Bali.
At the same time, the social media tools will encourage a long-term conversation among Forum attendees, in order to design meaningful policies for young people.
