KATHMANDU, Feb 4: Nepal head coach Umesh Patwal has tendered his resignation to the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) on Monday, according to sources. 

The tri-nation ODI series between Nepal, Oman and United States from February 5 to 12 at TU Cricket Ground in Kathmandu will be his last stint as coach.

It has been reported that Patwal has not been paid his salary since the last four months. 

Sources have claimed that Patwal is dissatisfied with the 35% tax on his salary imposed by the National Sports Council.

It has been learned that he is dwelling on the prospects as a full-time coach at his cricket academies in India.

The ICC and National Sports Council (NSC) agreed on the basic annual salary of 7,000 USD for the one year appointment which started on June 10 in the absence of CAN. 

However, the stint will be cut short by four months if the resignation is accepted. NSC heads the payment structure for the coach in coordination with ICC. 

CAN has not officially addressed the matter. 

Previously, Patwal worked as batting coach of Nepal during ICC World Cup qualifiers which was held in Zimbabwe, 2018 as it gained the ODI status during the campaign whereas he had returned to coach Nepali players in ODI and T20I series wins against the United Arab Emirates in 2019. 

Nepal’s exit from the race for Twenty20 World Cup 2020 was the lowest point in his coaching. 

It came to an abrupt end after suffering a 82-run defeat against host Singapore during the last match of the ICC Twenty20 World Cup Qualifiers match held in July last year.

Similarly, he had also worked as tournament director in Pokhara Premier League’s inaugural season in 2018 and as the head coach for Biratnagar Warriors in Everest Premier League in the same year.

Patwal formerly worked as batting coach for Afghanistan during the World T20 in Bangladesh and Asia Cup in 2014.
