Australian mountaineer dies in Mt Annapurna-I

MUSTANG, Oct. 31: An Australian national, who has gone to scale Mt. Annapurna-I that lies in Mustang and Myagdi districts, passed away after falling off the mountain at an altitude of 6,000 metres, confirmed the Border Police Post at Bhurung Tatopani. Identity of the deceased has not been ascertained yet.

A team of four climbers had gone to scale the mountain four days ago. Chairman of Annapurna Area Conservation Project Management Committee Narchyang, Tej Gurung, said that other members of the team have returned without climbing the mountain after the demise of their team member.


He said, "We have informed the Border Police Post about the incident. It's difficult to take out the body due to a very difficult landscape."

To reach the Mt. Annapurna-I base camp, the visitors either should use the helicopters or should go a long route through Kunjo area of Mustang district. Police said that efforts are on to bring the body. RSS
