Of the missing women, some were supposed to be fleeing to neighboring India after getting married at an early age despite police vigilance along the Nepal-India border.
Meanwhile, police said that 10 women and 11 children came into contact with their family members out of missing 38 women and children in the fiscal year 2073-74. Likewise, two women and two children came into contact with their family members of the missing 34 women and children in the fiscal year 2074-75.
People register their complaints at the District Police Office, but do not follow up on their complaints. The locals don’t inform police if they later come in contact with their missing family members. Hence, the data regarding missing women and children remain inaccurate, officials said.
