CHITWAN, May 22: Seventy percent of the votes of Chitwan's Bharatpur Metropolitan City have been counted. A total of 88,284 votes have been counted in a period of 9 days. In Bharatpur, 127,839 votes were cast in the local elections held on May 13.
CPN (Maoist Center) candidate Renu Dahal has been increasing her lead in the ongoing vote count. She has maintained a difference of 7,314 votes with her closestc contender. According to the latest count, Dahal, the candidate of the ruling coalition, has received 34,684 votes.
1,931 out of 2,409 votes counted invalid
Following Dahal, CPN-UML candidate Bijay Subedi has got 27,370 votes. Subedi has not been able to get the expected votes even in the ward won by UML. Similarly, independent candidate Jagannath Poudel has received 11,720 votes.
Similarly, Chitrasen Adhikari of Nepali Congress has been continuously moving ahead in the deputy mayor category. He has received 36,893 votes. Following Adhikari, RPP's Himala Gurung has secured 22,621 votes.
In Bharatpur, which has 29 wards, votes of 17 wards have been counted. The counting of votes of wards 18 and 19 is underway. UML candidates are leading in both these wards. But Dahal has got more votes than Subedi in these wards.
