69 banda enforcers arrested

JANAKPUR, April 8:  As many as 53 banda enforcers were arrested in Dhanusha on the first day of the two-day Madhes banda called by People´s Rights Forum (Nepal) on Thursday.



Among those arrested are party´s central member Bindu Devi Yadav, Youth Forum´s central in-charge Gyanendra Yadav, secretary Ashok Mandal, the party´s district president Sheshnarayan Yadav, and Youth Forum´s district president Mukesh Yadav. [break]



Similarly, Jaleshwar police arrested 16 banda enforcers, including the party´s Mahottari president Tej Narayan Yadav.



There were repeated clashes between police and demonstrators in Dhanusha and Mahottari. Six demonstrators were injured after they clashed with the police at Zeromile area of Janakpur. All of them returned home after receiving treatment at Janakpur Zonal Hospital.



Banda enforcers vandalized half-a-dozen vehicles in Janakpur for defying the banda. According to Dhanusha District Police Office, the demonstrators vandalized two passenger buses, a private SUV, and a truck, apart from two vans that were being used in a rally organized by Sadbhavana party.



MPRF (Nepal) has demanded that the 22-point agreement between the government and the then Madhesi People´s Rights Forum as well as the 8-point agreement between the government and the United Madhesi Front be implemented.

In Birgunj, banda enforcers asked our correspondent Upendra Lamicchane to delete a picture from his camera.



Lamicchane was taking pictures of children who were carrying sticks to enforce the banda when he was approached by a youth who asked him, “Why are you taking their pictures?” Lamicchane was told to delete the picture and take pictures of other demonstrators.
