With the rise in the popularity of the Nepali Folk song ‘Galbandi’ the controversy about it being copied from an old folk song has dragged attention. This controversy reached the parliament too. “The song is hummed by every generation from the day of release. It has gained both national and international fame.  Rather than being praised and honor by the government, it is being criticized. The song carries the cultural aspects of our country too. This is not a good sign for aspiring artist who are trying to promote the culture and tradition of our country,” said Min Bahadur Biswakarma, a Member of Parliament from Congress party. The  Ex-Minister for Commerce raised this point in the parliament saying that this was a topic needed to be discussed.

The song ‘Galbandi’ is sung by Prakash Saput and Shanti Shree Pariyar and hit the limelight after trending in YouTube for weeks.

“The song has a local folk music tune and doesn’t have any relevance to Sambhu Rai’s song. To sue anyone without proper research will harm both the defendant and the opposition,” Min Bahadur Biswakarma added.

“Using caste discrimination as a means of hate comment is against the law, and people who breach the law must be punished. Because caste discrimination is not something that anyone should be using as a purpose of hate,” he added, “If the government is unable to punish the ones who breach the law then the so-called lower caste people must come to the streets with rally to overcome this attempt of discriminating them.”
