512 of 753 local units connected to broadband internet

KATHMANDU, Dec 29: The government's vision of ensuring the availability of high-speed broadband internet across the country has been gaining momentum with 67 percent of physical progress achieved by the project as of mid-December.

KATHMANDU, Dec 29: The government's vision of ensuring the availability of high-speed broadband internet across the country has been gaining momentum with 67 percent of physical progress achieved by the project as of mid-December.


Of the total 753 local units in the country, 512 local units have been connected to the internet which is expected to enhance and improve delivery of public services and facilitate their day to day works, according to Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA).


The project has been funded by the NTA's Rural Telecommunication Development Fund.

NTA's Spokesperson Min Prasad Aryal shared that the internet was connected to 46 of the 77 districts under various 12 packages.


Among the 5,933 ward offices in the country, 4,213 have been connected to the internet while 3,505 community schools of secondary level have been benefited with the government's Digital Nepal Framework -2019.


Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur, however, are not the beneficiaries of this scheme, according to Spokesperson Aryal.
