Here she shares five things that many may not know about her.She is fond of sketching and drawing
When the news of Usha Khadgi opening her own boutique started making rounds, many people were surprised. But her love for designing was not a new found hobby. "I discovered my love for sketching when I was in Class XI. This inspired me to take up fashion design course in 2004 where I was able to polish that skill," she says. Most of the dresses in her boutique today are designed by her. "Besides designing dresses, I also draw landscapes. It allows me to be imaginative and it's one of my favorite stress busters. I sometimes do portrait too, but I don't enjoy it as much. The only portrait I can be proud of is that of my five-year-old daughter. It's beautiful," she says.
She is not "timid and shy"
Once while she was shopping, a woman came up to her and asked her if she was related to Usha Khadgi. When she revealed that she was Usha Khadgi herself, the woman got surprised because Usha seemed so "traditional and conservative" in her show 'Astha, Ek Dharmik Yaatra'. "I was wearing 'modern clothes' then, so she couldn't believe I was the same person who ran the show. I guess many people still think that I'm timid and shy and 'old school' who probably never dances in parties or has any fun. But that's not true at all. I am what the situation demands of me," she shares.
She is an ardent Kabaddi player
Quite unlike her delicate beauty queen persona, Usha preferred running around and playing Kabaddi as a child. "One time, while I was competing, I fell so badly in a nearby gutter that the left side of my face was swollen for days. I was not allowed to play Kabaddi since then but I happily defied," she quips. Her entry into the world of glitz and glamour wasn't able to take way this passion, and she still finds time to indulge in a match or two with her 11-year-old daughter if not anyone else.
She loves potatoes
Once when she was about nine years old, she went up to the kitchen to find no potatoes for the meal. She was so upset with the fact that she cried and hurried downstairs. Unfortunately she tripped from the top of the stairs to the bottom, the scars of which still remain today. "From that day onwards, there have always been potatoes for the meal in our house," she shares.
She was a badminton champion!
While doing her undergraduate studies in Birgunj, she developed a keen interest in badminton, and very soon excelled at it. One of the few women taking up the sport, she played in several tournaments and was the champion in her college. "My parents didn't allow me to go outside the district, but within Parsa I participated in many badminton tournaments and enjoyed every bit of it," she recalls.
