Featuring as a child artist at the age of eight in the film ‘Nepali Babu’, Salon Basnet formally started his career in films from the movie ‘Hostel’. Having acted in movies like ‘Afanta’, ‘Dhukdhuki’, ‘Hami Teen bhai’, ‘Afnopan’, ‘Hostel’, ‘Gajalu’, ‘Ae Mero Hajur 2’ , he is best known for his comedy roles and for his works as an assistant director in Nepali films.

In conversation with My City’s Sonam Lama, Salon talks about five things that many may not know about him.

A punk rock lover

An all time music lover, Salon is mostly fond of punk rock. He initially learned guitar when he was studing at Grade VIII and has written 16 songs till date. He enjoys listening to the songs of ‘Greenday’ and finds it hilarious having imitated their styles when in school days. “Having waited for five hours, it was upsetting not to be able to attend the recent Greenday Concert due to bad weather in Glasgow, Scotland,” says Salon.

A Nepali food lover

Although he has travelled to places and tried out different cuisines, Nepali Khana Set happens to top his list of favorite foods. He calls himself a picky eater, but when it comes to trying out some home-made foods cooked by his mother, he cannot have enough of them.

Fond of dancing

Having performed since his early childhood, Salon equally takes pleasure dancing hip-hop and B-boying in his spare hours. His performance in the recently released movie ‘A Mero Hajur 2’ was highly appreciated. “When it comes to music and dancing I like to follow Justin Beiber and learn many things watching his music videos as well as other dance tutorials,” he says.

A trekker

Salon has trekked to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) and Everest Base Camp (EBC) and to add a level to his adventure, he aims to ascent the 6476m Mera Peak in Solukhumbu district. For him, trekking is a part of adventure and a time to explore one’s inner self.

A movie buff

Having worked as an actor and assistant director in a couple of Nepali movies, Salon loves watching Hollywood and Nepali films that are based on adventure and sci-fi. Driven by his dream of making a film on music in upcoming days, he makes sure to watch movies of different genres every day.
