KATHMANDU, Dec 5: Tribhuvan University's Institute of Medicine (IOM) has published the results of MBBS entrance test, which was canceled on November 19 and retaken on December 2.

The first entrance test taken on October 14 was canceled after some examinees were found cheating with the help of either electronic devices or proxies.

“The IOM published the results of the second entrance test today [Monday],” said Prof Dr JP Agrawal, dean of the IOM. “A total of 46 percent examinees received 50 marks, the minimum requirement to get admission for MBBS studies,” he added.

However, Tribhuvan University (TU), which should take decision on the allocation of seats for admission in MBBS in medical colleges under IOM, has not allocated seats for the admission in the current academic session that began November 17. “Until the TU executive council takes a decision, MBBS enrollment process will be halted,” said Dr Agrawal. “It will take about three weeks to decide about the seat allocation,” he said.

A total of 7,298 students appeared in the entrance tests taken on December 2 and 1,672 (18 percent) remained absent. Among them, 3,298 Nepali students and 33 foreign students passed the entrance exam. “This time, the entrance test was conducted without any hassles,” said IOM officials.
